The FIM Superbike World Championship, also known today as WSBK, was founded in 1988 with the first race on the Donington Park circuit (UK) and is the most prestigious and sought after championship for mass production motorcycles.
Compared to the road models from which they originate, motorcycles prepared according to WSBK specifications may include modifications in the exhaust system, suspensions, brakes and some parts of the engine, all of which give them greater performance and make them more suitable for competition.
A peculiar feature of the championship is its particular FORMAT which includes two races over the weekend: the first on Saturday, “Race 1” and the second on Sunday, “Race 2”.
For the 2019 season something very new and different has been conceived and introduced: while creating the starting grid for Race 1 a traditional qualifying session will still be used, to determine the starting order of Race 2 there will be a “sprint race” run on Sunday morning. And so the entire race weekend guarantees excitement and adrenaline!
